You have to tell Word to show anchors, and get used to moving them around and locking them. For me, I just use my LaTeX template.

Oh, and you would have loved the fun I had with MS word when I was trying to combine three different documents. The images were getting all freaked out. I think I spent half my time fixing that crud.

I’m a little surprised that more is not offered on that. I would have taken a course if I thought it would have been taught well. I think the key is good mentoring, and I’ve been luck enough to have Ellen Lackey and Jim Vaughan to help me. I’m hoping that the fact that it is interdisciplinary and includes “nano” helps.

I have a nifty template for the CAREER which includes a skeleton of the content. Let me know if you want it. My first submission was terrible, and since then I’ve gotten better at writing proposals. I wish this was something I learned in grad school.

Ahhhh…the NSF Career proposal. Mine was due on Wednesday. It was my first shot. I was using a NASA proposal that I submitted in March as a basis, but I still managed to be under the gun. We had a conference last week in Albuquerque, so that probably had a lot to do with it. There’s nothing like proposals!
